VOLUNTEERING

COSTUMES
Parents, Grandparents, and friends with all levels of interest and ability are welcome to help with costumes. This team is responsible for construction and coordination of all costumes (including shoes, hats, wigs, and accessories) This team is also an organizational team, which will be responsible for moving costumes to the theatre, dressers for performances, maintenance at the theatre, returning costumes to the Banana Factory, and post-production organization/cleaning. These jobs can be split among the team members as needed. Costumers work under the direction of the Costume Coordinator.
PROPS
This team is responsible for creating or purchasing most props for the production. Artistic or crafting talent is useful, but not always required. This team is also responsible for managing the props during the performance and repairing them when necessary. A member of this team must be present backstage before, during and after each performance.
HOUSE MANAGEMENT
This team is responsible for ushering and other front-of-house responsibilities. They provide assistance to the audience as they enter and exit the theatre, and work with the Stage Manager to ensure that the performances start on time. The House Managers report directly to the Stage Manager, will oversee the ushers at each performance, and will coordinate the front-of-house responsibilities. Training will be provided.
BACKSTAGE MANAGEMENT
The Backstage Managers report directly to the Stage Manager, will oversee the backstage/dressing room areas, and coordinate the efforts of the backstage supervisors. Training will be provided. The Backstage Supervision team is responsible for managing the backstage area and green room, supervising the actors and helping to run costume changes and scene shifts. Members of this team may also be needed to supervise some rehearsals.
CONCESSIONS
This team is responsible for deciding on what food, drink, and other items are to be sold at the performances. This team is also responsible for purchasing these items, setting up the concessions area at the theatre, and running concessions sales before each performances and during intermission. This team is also responsible for post-production cleanup and organization of remaining concessions items.
HOSPITALITY COORDINATOR
This team is responsible for providing morning refreshments and other services as needed to out-of-town actors. They are also responsible for arranging snacks for students when necessary, and coordinating the cast party.
HOSPITALITY: MORNING REFRESHMENTS
This team is responsible for providing refreshments to the adult actors for the morning school performances - for example: fruit, bagels and spreads, donuts or danishes, with coffee/tea, and juice, etc.
HOSPITALITY: OUT-OF-TOWN ACTORS
This team is responsible for assisting the out-of-town actors. Responsibilities may include: occasional weekend housing (if needed), coordinating lunch orders for school performances, transportation to and from the hotel, running errands, a home-cooked meal, etc. These are just some of the possible needs of our professional actors while they are sharing their talents with our students.
HOSPITALITY: CAST PARTY
Responsibilities include determining date/time, making arrangements for location, providing refreshments and any necessary gifts.
LOBBY DECORATION
This team is responsible for designing the decorations for the lobby, within the limits set for us by the theatre. This team is also responsible for putting up the decorations during tech week, and taking them down during strike.
LOAD-IN TEAM
This team, under the direction of the Stage Manager, Costume Mistress, Prop Coordinator, and Load-In/Strike Volunteer Coordinator, will help to take all the costumes and props to the theatre. (Station Wagons, SUV’s, and Minivans are especially helpful.)
STRIKE
After the final performance, the theatre must be returned to it’s original condition - all of our signs taken down, trash emptied, floors swept, counters wiped, etc. Although everyone is required to stay and help, this team is responsible for staying until the end of strike to ensure that everything is taken care of. This team will also gather all the costumes and props and return them to PYT. (Station Wagons, SUV’s, and Minivans are especially helpful.) This team works under the joint supervision of the Stage Manager, Backstage Managers, Props Master, Costume Coordinator, and Concessions Coordinators.
USHERS
It is the Ushers’ responsibility to greet audience as they enter the theatre, assist them in finding their seat, keep the flow of traffic moving, keep the audience members off the stage, and ensure that any special needs of an audience member are met. An Usher reports directly to the Head Usher or the House Manager.
HEAD USHER
The Head Usher is the supervisor of the Usher crew. They answer directly to the House Manager, and will help to troubleshoot problems in order to keep the House Manager from being overwhelmed.
RUN-CREW
