School-Day Matinees
Each season Pennsylvania Youth Theatre productions are presented to 20,000 students and teachers during school-day matinees. For many children, this is their first opportunity to attend a professional play. For teachers, these literature-based performances are accompanied by curriculum-enriched Study Guides that promote classroom discussion, reading and language arts instruction. All school tickets are subsidized, and many children attend at little or no cost.
Prologue
Classes that arrive at the theatre at least 20 minutes before the show will have an opportunity to hear Outreach Director, Jill Dunn, talk about the play, the actors and the production elements. These informative talks will enrich the theatre experience and give you and your students an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the process of creating a play.
DramaWorks
A professional teaching artist will visit your classroom to help your students learn about the play while expanding their imaginations through exciting theatre activities. It is a great way to extend the theatre-going experience while connecting to your curriculum.
One-hour DramaWorks can be held in your classroom, with a maximum of 30 students, before and/or after the play for only $60 when you make your school-day matinee reservations.
Curtains Up on Reading
In these residencies, stories spring to life through story dramatization when a professional teaching artist visits your classroom. Students are guided to explore the themes, plot, character and world of the story through dramatic techniques
that foster literacy and a love
of reading.
