CREATIVE BEGINNINGS
These programs introduce young children to the joy of creative expression through story dramatization, movement, and music. Self-confidence, imagination, physical and vocal skills develop as children participate in weekly creative drama and creative dance classes. The full-year classes will appear in PYT Performs!, a year-end student showcase, on April 19th.

STORYBOOK PLAYHOUSE - Ages 2½ - 4
Let's Pretend! Every week a story book comes to life as children "try on" characters and "act out" favorite scenes with improvised action and dialogue. Music, costumes, and multi-sensory props engage participants with the best in children's literature. A weekly creative dance class develops physical expressiveness, coordination, and musicality.

STORIES IN MOTION - Ages 3½-4½ and 4-5
Creative Movement and Drama combine to provide an imaginative introduction to dance, acting, and literature. Each class will focus on a different theme as children bring their favorite storybook characters to life through movement and dramatic imagination. Activities will promote flexibility, coordination, creativity, and self expression.

TREASURE TRUNK THEATRE - Ages 3½-5
Every week our theatre trunk will hold a special surprise! Costumes, puppets, multi-sensory props and musical instruments will bring the power and magic of imagination to life. As children go on dramatic adventures, they will develop imagination, creativity, and communication skills. Creative movement will develop physical expressiveness, coordination, and musicality

Through Music, Movement and Mime, stories spring to life as children “become” imaginary characters and “act out” scenes from their favorite books. Musical instruments, costumes, and multi-sensory props engage children with literature and help them develop musicality, coordination, flexibility of movement, and self expression.

PLAYMAKERS - Ages 3½ & 4
The creative artist within each child is released as participants respond to literature through drama, movement, and music. Nursery rhymes, storybooks, and multi-sensory props inspire children to create characters and explore imaginary worlds. A weekly creative dance class helps them develop coordination, musicality and physical expressiveness. Children will perform in an end-of-year showcase. To extend this class with a visual arts lesson, see CREATION STATION or partner with PRE-BALLET (Sat. only).

KINDERPLAY - Ages 4 & 5
Dinosaurs, mermaids, monsters, and munchkins spark imaginations as children enter storybook worlds of fantasy and adventure. Physical and vocal skills develop through role playing; creativity and fluency are nurtured through improvisation. A weekly dance class helps children acquire coordination, creative expression and rhythm. Children will perform in an end-of-year showcase. PLAYWORKS - Ages 5 & 6

A transitional class for the older child who has completed Kinderplay. Role playing and creative improvisation continue as children are inspired by the finest children's literature to create their own characters and stories. Dance instruction develops basic technique. Act! Dance! Draw! Paint! Create!
This comprehensive Saturday morning workshop has got it all! It's an exciting opportunity for kids to experience drama, dance, and the visual arts in 3 integrated theme-centered weekly lessons. As students respond to literature through the performing and visual arts, confidence, creativity, communication and expressive skills develop.

PRIMARY AND JUNIOR PROGRAMS
Grades 1- 8; The Primary and Junior Programs provide a well-rounded performing arts education with a focus on acting, singing, and dance within a comprehensive weekly workshop. The creative learning process is emphasized as students explore all aspects of acting, from movement and voice work to character development and scene study. A weekly dance class develops coordination, musicality, and basic technique. Students in the Primary and Junior Programs are encouraged to audition for PYT Mainstage productions and will appear in PYT Performs!, a year-end student showcase, on April 19th.


FIRST STAGE - Grades 1 & 2
Boys and girls are introduced to the excitement and fun of theatre through creative drama, dance, and singing. A different story each week gives participants an opportunity to explore imaginary worlds and go on wonderful adventures while developing basic skills in voice, movement, and character development. Dance instruction develops basic jazz technique, and a musical theatre unit introduces singing basics including vocal warm-ups, breath control, and projection. THE PEGASUS PROJECT - Grades 2 & Up
Experience in the performing arts benefits all students including those with physical, emotional and cognitive disabilities. The Pegasus Project brings performing arts experience to special needs students in the following ways:
*School residencies in which an artist/teacher will work with a special-needs classroom.
*Financial assistance for students with disabilities who wish to enroll in PYT classes.
*Special accommodations for children with disabilities at PYT Mainstage Productions.
*A Summer Performing Arts opportunities for special needs children.

The power and magic of imagination is nurtured as children are introduced to the performing arts through creative drama, dance and singing. Wonderful stories are read and brought to life by children through creative role playing and improvisation. Students in grades 4-6 are introduced to the basics of using scripted material. Dance instruction develops coordination, rhythm, and basic technique. A musical theatre unit introduces singing basics.

This class involves students in the world of performing arts through the excitement of theatre games, creative dramatics, dance, and musical theatre. Fluency of ideas, confidence, and creativity develop as students create short, original plays based on real-life situations and ideas suggested by literature. Fundamentals of jazz are introduced, and routines are taught to encourage vitality and enthusiasm for dance. A musical theatre unit includes warm-ups, breath control, and projection. In addition to theatre games, creative drama, and improvisation, students will be introduced to basic methods of approaching scripted materials, including scenes from PYT's 2008/2009 productions of Charlotte's Web and Wizard of Oz . Dance class continues to help students develop strong jazz technique, and a musical theatre unit will include instruction in breath control, projection, and acting though singing. An introductory class for beginning students to explore the basics of acting, singing, and dance. A beginning jazz class and a musical theatre unit will build self-confidence and develop vocal and physical expression.

INTERMEDIATE ACTING I and II - Grades 5 & 6
Students in these classes learn to analyze a script while continuing to develop basic acting technique through story dramatization and improvisation. Rehearsing and presenting scenes and monologues from a variety of well-known plays give participants an opportunity to create unique and truthful characters and understand the playwright's intentions. Dance and singing instruction emphasize musical theatre technique and character work through ensemble numbers from Broadway musicals. Placement in level I or II is based on previous experience and age. To extend this class see BROADWAY STYLES I.

ENSEMBLE WORKSHOP - Grades 6 - 8
Drama instruction emphasizes physical, vocal, and emotional skill building and the development of believable characters. Students continue to learn how to analyze a script and understand the dramatic meaning of the lines. They put their skills into practice by rehearsing and presenting scenes and monologues. Dance instruction focuses on musical theatre movement and jazz styles. Performance and singing are strengthened in a musical theatre unit. This class is for students with previous experience. YOUNG ACTORS COMPANY - Grades 7 - 9
Open to students with previous experience, this class helps participants gain solid acting technique through the development of skills in improvisation, character development and scene study. The coordination of voice, body, and mind is stressed in the rehearsal and presentation of scenes and monologues. SENIOR CONSERVATORY
These evening workshops provide serious training for advanced students. Through the rehearsal of scenes from contemporary and classical plays and the study of a wide range of acting techniques, students begin formulating their own approach to the acting process. Physical and vocal skills are sharpened through a musical theatre unit culminating in Senior Cabaret. Senior Conservatory students have full audition privileges and are encouraged to audition for Character Company and PYT Mainstage productions.



IMPROV & SCENE STUDY - Grades 8 & 9
For the experienced actor, this class focuses on three areas: Improvisation and Theatre Games which develop spontaneity, concentration, and flexibility; Scene Study which this year will focus on youth theatre scripts; and Musical Theatre which will involve rehearsal of scenes and music from Broadway musicals, culminating in Senior Cabaret on February 27th and 28th. Students will, also, perform in Evening of Scenes on March 30th, and are encouraged to audition for Character Company and PYT Mainstage productions. A weekly dance class helps strengthen movement skills. (Register with permission of instructor.)

KIDS COMPANY - Grades 2 - 5
Let’s put on a show! Participants will select a title from the following: Little Mermaid, Aladdin, or School House Rock, then rehearse and perform the play for parents and friends on the last day. Young actors will learn how to follow blocking, memorize lines, create characters, and bring an exciting story to life. For a SUPER SATURDAY , partner this workshop with SECOND STAGE, IMAGINATION, or IMAGINATION PLUS classes.

STAGE COMBAT - Grades 6 - 10
This workshop promises lots of action, learning, and fun! Through falls, slaps, punches, kicks, and more, young actors learn how to create the illusion of fighting on stage. All fights are skillfully staged by master stunt director Dave Mason to assure the safety of all involved. Pre requisite: one year of acting instruction or by permission of instructor.

A creative opportunity for the imaginative young actor or budding playwright. Students will work with PYT Outreach Director Jill Dunn to create an original theatre piece. Selecting a central theme, then working as an ensemble, participants will combine improvisation, character building, movement, and playwriting to devise a script which will be given a studio performance. Prerequisite: one year of acting instruction or by audition.

WINTER BREAK CAMP!
Grades 1-3 and 4-6
Have a hilarious and fun-filled Holiday break at PYT
DAY ONE will focus on stage comedy. Participants will learn about what it takes to make an audience laugh including such techniques as double-takes and sight gags. They will, also, act out scenes from former PYT comedies such as Sideways Stories from Wayside School and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. DAY TWO will focus on costume design, mask making, and theatrical make-up. Students will create funny or fantasy make-up to delight and frighten parents and friends. DAY THREE will be student’s choice and may include Stage Combat, puppet making, or Acting for the Camera. This exciting and varied three day performance experience would be a great holiday gift for a young thespian!
