Guiding Principles

Guiding Principles

Through PYT’s Guiding Principles, we are able to inspire, nurture and enrich the lives of young people and their families. These principles outline our approach to the performing arts, as well as identify our standards of teaching, learning and performance in the studio and on the stage. All PYT classes will teach the mechanics and pedagogy that frame each discipline (Drama, Dance and Voice), and will have a scaffolding approach to teaching the arts: each skill building on the next.

PYT School of Performing Arts Classes will:

  • PERFORM!
    • Performing is a verb: To DO!  Classes will be interactive and physical.
    • Integrate the FUNdamentals of each art form.
  • Inspire authenticity
    • Bring truth and honesty in our theatrical endeavors.
    • Encourage autonomy.
  • Cultivate students’ imaginations and creative impulses.
  • Create a collaborative environment.
  • Foster students’ self-awareness, self-confidence and empathy.
    • Encourage students’ personal growth.
  • Establish a safe learning environment.
  • Support the unique/creative individual that they are and allow them a safe environment to explore who that may be.

There are three vital experiences in which PYT believes young people can engage with these principles: taking classesperforming, and attending the theatre. As you peruse the School of Performing Arts schedule, you will see ample opportunity for our students to enjoy these three experiences.
